What a corridor median does and does not tell you

533 country pairs have at least one live provider; 196 have enough disclosed pricing to publish a median. That gap is the most important thing on this index — a route without a published median is not necessarily expensive, it is unmeasured.

Where a median exists, it is computed from provider-filed pricing cross-checked against buyer-reported transactions, and it moves. Treat any corridor figure older than a quarter as historical.

Reading a corridor figure

Four rules that stop a median being misread. They apply to every route page on this index.

Under 5 providersNo median is published. The route is unmeasured, not necessarily expensive — often the opposite.
5 to 15 providersMedian published but set by a small sample. Treat it as a starting point and get two live quotes.
Over 15 providersMedian is reliable and the spread is narrow. Decide on FX handling and reconciliation instead of price.
Older than a quarterRe-check. US → Brazil compressed 24 basis points in three months on competition alone.

Corridor pricing, answered

From buyer questions about corridor data. Marked up as FAQPage.

Because fewer than five providers have disclosed pricing on them. We publish the gap rather than estimating a figure — an unmeasured route is marked as such.

From provider-filed all-in pricing, cross-checked against buyer-reported transaction costs over a rolling 30 days, and recomputed hourly.

What an absent median means

An absent median does not mean an expensive route — it means an unmeasured one. Of 533 live corridors only 196 carry enough disclosed pricing to publish a figure. Buyers routinely read the gap as a red flag and skip corridors that are simply under-reported, which is where the least contested pricing usually sits.
